Lusty choruses on the Pentonville Road

Updated: May 10, 2020

A rumbustious evening last night at the very fine Lexington on the Pentonville Road saw Skinny Lister whip up a storm on the band’s last UK gig of the year. This is what live music should be all about, infectious foot-stompers interspersed with beautiful English pastoral and regular encouragement to belt out a lusty chorus or two while spilling your beer. I’ve you’ve not had the pleasure of hearing or seeing the Skinnys yet, I suggest you waste no more time in catching up. This is the band performing one of my favourite numbers in one of the best videos of the year.

I’ve not been entirely convinced by a lot of the folk revival stuff, but this is real no-holds barred party music which links right back to proper English folk roots. Long may the band voted the hardest-working giggers of the year continue to raise merry hell, and well done to David Hepworth and the Word in your ear team for staging a fine evening. That local radio DJ they had on weren’t half bad either. Danny someone.
